A useful manual is provided that covers all the features along with useful tips for maximising your success and speed when working with the program. Abbyy FineReader Professional 6 is an award winning OCR (Optical Character Recognition) application that adds a great many features over and above the OCR packages typically given away with flatbed scanners. FineReader excels at preserving the layout of a document as well as extracting the text accurately. Once analysed, the text can be saved in a number of formats including Microsoft Word and usefully Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. The latter did get slightly confused with one page we gave it but otherwise worked well. Pages can also be converted to HTML offering a quick and easy way to get documents ready for web publishing. FineReader Professional 6 provides all you could want in an OCR package, reliability, features and customisation and as such is an excellent tool. --Iain Laskey As well as converting scanned documents, FineReader can also open PDF files directly making it useful for turning PDF files back in to editable text. Analysed text can be spell checked with custom dictionaries being supported. Finally, further formatting of the text can made using a range of formatting and editing options.
